It's almost time to start the 21st century. But people are making too much of it. I hear things like this on the radio, "Women are being battered. We're going into a new century. How can we continue to let women get battered?" Now, don't get my wrong, women being batered is a terrible thing. It's just that it has absolutely nothing to do with the new century. According to the logic I heard on the radio, if the year happened to be 1971, then we would not need to be concerned about battered women as much because we would not be approaching a new century.
In an article in the newspaper it says "As we move into the twenty-first century, the power of technology has begun to change the way that we work, live and learn." As we move into the twenty-first century....? As if it's like a slow process like moving to a new house. We are not moving to it. We are completely in the 20th century as far as I can tell. On a certain day, we'll suddenly be in the 21st century. The power of technology has begun to change.... As far as I can tell, technology has been changing things for many generations. That statement I quoted at the beginning of this paragraph is meaningless, just meant to get the attention of the reader, perhaps.
