Abortion. Sometimes I'm not sure of what side to take on this issue. But what I'm about to write is not about taking sides, but pointing out flaws in arguments about abortion. Those who argue for abortion rights really have no flaws in their logic. They believe that the life of an unborn fetus is not as important as the life of the mother and that it is the mother's decision what to do. One could argue that this is murder and that the fetus is a life just like a baby. But, let's face it, you have to draw the line between a baby and a blob somewhere. So, we draw the line at the 6th month. It is arbitrary, but not any worse than anything else.
Now those who argue against abortion have many big flaws in their arguments. The one that peeves me the most is that they say that the fetus, even just after conception, is alive and a "potential" human being. Now if this isn't the stupidist argument, I don't know what is. Potential! Well, it could potentially be a drunk driver who kills people or a murderer or a Hitler. This is all more likely if the mother is unwed and poor, which is often the case. And using this logic, my sperm is a potential human being because it could fertilize an egg. Thus, I, as well as all males, should go and impregnate all females, because we wouldn't want to waste this potential life. I mean a 16 celled blob is no more a person than a sperm is.
Another inconsistantcy with the pro-life argument is that they say that it is wrong to kill a tiny fetus because it is a life. Now, I'm not talking about an 8 month old fetus. I'm talking about a very young fetus. Yes, it is alive. But so is a carrot. The question should not be whether it is alive, but maybe if it really resembles a human being. Now, in our society a pig or a monkey do not resemble a human being enough to warrent special protection under the law. Thus, monkey research that involves pain and death is legal. And eating pigs is legal. Now, if you are going to tell me that a 2 month old fetus is more like a human than a monkey or a pig, well, I don't think so! Thus, if one is to be pro-life, to be consistant, they ought to be vegetarian and maybe they shouldn't even eat plants because they are alive too.
If anyone reading this cares to disagree with my logic on this issue, please write me at asb110273 at gmail.com. Thanks.
