Oh man. I'm so tired. I am trying to work on this project for one of my classes, but I am just too tired, so I decided to add to my Digression of the Day instead.

Ok, what do I have to say today, you wonder. Recently there was something on the news about this female Air Force pilot getting in trouble for not obeying orders or something and some people claimed that she was singled out because she is female. A spokesman from the Air Force made a statement shortly after this, something to the affect of, "There is absolutely no discrimination of any kind in the Air Force". Let's think what he just said.

One of the dictionary definitions of the word discriminate is to use good judgement. Another definition is to to mark or perceive the distinguishing features of. This kind of discrimination is a good thing. I would hope that the Air Force would use some form of discrimination to decide who they will let pilot their planes. Of course, this discrimination is not based on gender or the color of ones skin, but it is still certainly a form of discrimination. If someone is blind, I would hope that the Air Force would discriminate against him and not let him fly a plane. The spokesperson was wrong in saying that there is absolutely no discrimination in the Air Force.
