Marcello at Cellular 101 in downtown Santa Barbara is an idiot. Here's the story. Back in June I decided it was time for me to shop around to get a cell phone. I looked at a couple places, asked a lot of questions and all that. I decided that I'd go with Cellular 101. They seemed to have a reasonable deal and they all seemed to know what they were talking about (except Marcello who almost immediately gave me the impression that he had no clue). Anyway, the day I went to buy the phone, it was Marcello who was selling it to me. I won't even list all the little examples of how he had no clue, but I'll just get to the point. There was a dry erase board in the store and it clearly said "First month access free" or something to that affect. I asked Marcello about that and he said that this was indeed the case and he even said that I would not get a bill in the first month if I don't make any phone calls (it's like $30 a month access fee, plus more if you make lots of calls). In addition, he wrote on the service agreement, very clearly, "First Month Access Free". Well, guess what! I got my first bill. And I didn't get the first month access free. I called Cellular 101. I talked to one person, who gave me to another person who said he'd call back. He called back a few minutes later to tell me that being that it was Marcello who sold me the phone, that Marcello would get back to me. I talked to Marcello. He said something like "it was a mistake. I put the wrong number. You got free activation, not free access for the first month. We never give the first month access free. That's impossible." He sounded like he thought I was crazy for suggesting I should have the first month access free. So, I thought to myself that just maybe I was delusional. Maybe the service agreement didn't really say "First month free". Maybe I read it wrong. I went and looked at the service agreement. It clearly said "No Activation Fee/First Month Access Free". I was kinda pissed. Basically, they had a sign up that said I get the first month access free. They confirmed this verbally and put it on the service agreement, yet I didn't get the first month access free. It was as much a matter of principle as a matter of $30. I was right and I was not going to let them get away with this. I went to the store and talked to a guy there and showed him the service agreement. We had to go through this deal of talking to his supervisor and calling Marcello on the phone, etc. for about a half hour. I talked to Marcello on the phone from Cellular 101. He was still arguing that it was just that he put the wrong number or some nonsense. He even said that it was dishonest of me to try to take advantage of his mistake. EXCUSE ME!! My whole point of being there was cuz they were being dishonest by promising me the first month free and not giving it to me. Anyway, eventually Marcello said he'd make some calls and see what he can do and he'll call me back later this week. Unbelievable. It's so clear. They should just take a look at the service agreement and the bill and give me a $30 check and then figure the rest out amongst themselves. And Marcello. He might be a nice guy, but he should not be working selling cell phone cuz he doesn't know what he is talking about. I could go on, but I think I made my point.
