I went to this Bill Clinton Rally this morning at Santa Barbara City College. It was interesting. but actually, the speech itself was pretty boring. I am planning on voting for Clinton, but there were a number of things he said that were lame, and I'm going to comment on a few of them.
As he's said many times before, he claims that no nuclear warheads are aimed at America's children. There never were any damn warheads aimed at America's chlidren. They may have been aimed at military targets, or even cities, but they were not aimed at children. And just cuz they are not today does not mean that they can't change their minds and aim them at us again. I'm sure it doesn't take all day to aim a missle. Think about it. It means very little whether or not they happen to be aimed at us at this moment. It matters if they exist.
Clinton talks about this bridge to the 21st century. Yes, he who is elected president this election will be the last president of the 20th century and the first president of the 21st century, assuming he serves his full term. But so what! That doesn't make this election any more important. I mean a bridge to the new centruy, in fact to the new millenia. But so what! Who cares. I mean what if it was a bridge to the year 2057. It makes no difference.
And Clinton criticized Dole on one day saying that we've had the worst economy in 20 years and then saying on another day that we had the worst economy of the century. Whether or not these are true statements, they DO NOT contradict each other. If something is the worst in the last 20 years, it may also happen to be the worst in the last century. There is nothing wrong with this statement. Somehow I doubt that our economy is the worst off in the last century, but that's a whole different issue.
Anyway, so after the rally, I hung around for a few minutes as people left, to try to get closer to the stage to watch all the media and stuff. Well, this guy from Channel 13 in LA comes up to me with a camera and a mike and starts asking me questions. I wish I would have had a couple minutes to think of more intelligent sounding answers. Maybe my answers weren't so bad. But I kinda hope that if they put me on the news tonight, that they take only intelligent sounding parts of what I said. I wish I had said something about how the 2-party system sucks and that Clinton is the lesser of 2 evils. Oh well!
