I am filling out this survey about the Dept of Mechanical Engineering here and one of the questions is this: "What is your assessment of the climate for graduate study that your department fosters for historically underrepresented students?". My answer: "Historically underrepresented? You mean like black people? Or immigrants. Immigrants cannot vote when they first come here. Thus, they are underrepresented, both historically and presently. There are a lot of foreign grad students here. They are fine. They work hard. What kind of a question is this anyway? Fat people are underrepresented. Less representation per pound. If you mean dark skinned people, then just say it."
