I was listening to talk radio this morning driving back from LA. I put it on Rush Limbaugh and he starts out his show, as he does all of his shows, "This is a special edition of the Rush Limbaugh......" It's not special. They say that every time. Why don't they save it for special occasions, maybe have a couple special shows a month where they go on location somewhere or something. Anyway, I didn't feel like listening to extreme right wing viewpoints, not that I disagree with everything he has to say, just a lot of it, and so I found the talk show host Michael Jackson, not the singer, and listened to him. It was much more interesting than listening to Rush (where did he get his name from anyway, who named their kids Rush?). Anyway, one of Michael Jackson's topics was the death penalty and they keep mentioning the automatic appeal. Why do they have an automatic appeal. I mean if the guy is convincted of murder and doesn't want to appeal, why on earth should we waste millions of dollars doing appeals? It's utterly stupid. I mean if a guy is sentenced to death, let's kill him. If we wait 15 years, then he might change as a person and become a kinder gentler person, and then we'll feel guilty killing him and then we might as well not even have the death penalty and waste 10 million dollars on all the trials. I mean who made up this system anyway? It's unbelievable. They ought to allow them an appeal or 2, if they want one, and then let the families of the victims have the choice on the means of death....and they can choose anything....i mean they can stone him to death or whatever, it's up to them. Why not? If they choose to let the state take care of it, fine, but they should have the choice of how the killer dies.
Next topic relates to the death penalty, but is more about religion. They had Polly Klaas's grandfather on the Michael Jackson show and he kept talking about how he prayed to god that god let the killer ....blah blah blah, and the killer did this and that, and so that's how god wanted it, blah blah blah. I mean I feel bad for the guy, and there is nothing wrong with him praying to god, but it just seems silly the think that there is some being up there listening to him and the other billions of people praying, and really caring about them and setting things up to work out right. I mean according to this logic, why would he let people kill other people, right? I mean it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me how someone can believe that they would pray to god and god would do what they ask for or something. But that's my opinion. I suppose I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
