Around the time of Thanksgiving, I was kinda busy with finals upcoming, but I had some thoughts about Thanksgiving that I thought I'll put in here.

Thanksgiving is supposedly a really great American Holiday, and in some sense it is, but I am kinda of cynical, so I think I'll take the opposing position today. Thanksgiving may be a better all around holiday than something strictly religion based, like Christmas. But, it still has its problems.

Supposing you are vegetarian. Then you can't eat turkey. Of course there is more to Thanksgiving than eating turkey. But, I mean it is known as Turkey Day almost as much as it's known as Thanksgiving. Anyway, we're supposed to be thankful that hundreds of years ago, "our forefathers" came here and survived (though some would say they survived at the expense of the "Native Americans", who themselves are really not native, but came over the land bridge from Asia, but I digress) Anyway, while some people think it was wrong for "our forefathers" to come here and take over the "Native American's" land, the fact is that they are not our forefathers anyway. At least not mine. I mean my ancestors came to America within the last hundred years, from eastern Europe. I think most Americans are not desended from the Pilgrims.

Anyway, Thanksgiving, like virtually all American holidays, is a somewhat of a joke. What are people thankful for? Most people don't even know why they are supposed to be thankful. They think they are supposed to be thankful that they get to eat lots of turkey and watch football. Personally, yeah, I'm thankful that we live in such a great country and all that.....but I can be thankful for that any time of year. I don't need the government telling me which day of the year to be thankful. On Thanksgiving, what I'm most thankful for is that I don't have to go to class, cuz I have finals coming up and I need the time to relax and/or study.
