There was an article in the Daily Californian this past April 14 called USCA to Open Co-Op Geared to Black Students. It's about new African American Theme house at UC Berkeley. Here is a quote from the article.
"(The theme house) would make the freshman transition easier," said freshman Neka Dunlap, who lives on the same floor as Frazier. "Many African Americans are coming from schools that are mostly black, and to see so many different faces can be a shock. It's helpful to live and work with other black people."Now, imagine if we replaced the word African American with Caucasian and switched black to white. It would read, "Many Caucasions are coming from schools that are mostly white, and to see so many different faces can be a shock. It's helpful to live and work with other white people." Why is it ok when it is about black people, but when it's about white people, then it's racist? It's an inconsistancy here. I mean if someone is white and isn't used to being around other kinds of people, well, they're just going to have to get used to it. It should work the same way with black people. That's one of the most important lessons you can learn from college.... how to interact with all different kinds of people, whether you grew up with them or not.
