Marianne Stanley was the women's basketball coach at USC a number of years ago. Despite the fact that the women's team won far more often than the men's team at USC, Marianne Stanley's salary was less than the men's coach's salary. She claimed that USC was discriminating against women and demanded an equal salary. I think she sued USC. She lost, and she lost her job. Many people claim that USC was discriminating against her. I think they were not. I think that it is a shame that men's basketball gets more attention than women's basketball, but USC is hardly to blame for that. It's a shame that the networks would prefer to televise a losing USC men's team more than a winning USC women's team. It's a shame that more fans will pay to watch a men's USC team lose than a winning USC women's team. But these are the facts. The men's team brings in more money for the school than the women's team. That's why the men's coach gets paid more. He is more valuable to the school. I would guess that the women's basketball coach gets paid more than the men's tennis coach. This would be because the women's basketball team makes more money than the men's tennis team. If the men's tennis coach at USC got paid more than Marianne Stanley, then she'd have a good point. Unfortunately, she is placing the blame on USC that this society pays more attention to men's sports than women's. For better or for worse, that is the reason that Marianne Stanley did not get paid equal to the men's coach.
